Gonstead Technique

The Gonstead Technique

Gonstead procedures are the result of extensive clinical research by Clarence S. Gonstead, founder of the world famous Gonstead Clinic of Chiropractic in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. The Gonstead technique has been proven to be the most specific, scientific, and most effective chiropractic adjustment technique to date. It is considered the “Gold Standard” for chiropractic techniques. The Gonstead chiropractor does not guess when it comes to your health.

The Gonstead Chiropractor goes beyond what many chiropractors consider a spinal assessment by conducting a thorough analysis of your spine using five criteria to detect the presence of the vertebral subluxation complex. While most Chiropractors in the field utilize a “mixed bag” of chiropractic techniques, the Gonstead Technique continues to be the gold standard in the Chiropractic profession. So why don’t all chiropractors use this technique? Because the analysis takes more time and mastering the art of delivering a specific adjustment takes a LOT of practice and dedication.

Specificity Is Key For The Gonstead Chiropractor

Unlike the tendencies in our society that everyone is the same and requires the same nutrition, exercise, schooling and so on. Gonstead chiropractic is specific to you and the central nerve system that you have. Do the lease to achieve the most. The Gonstead Technique is acknowledged as one of the safest systems of evaluating and caring for the central nerve system.

  •  1. Visualization

Visualization is a way to cross reference all the other findings. Dr. Scranton is an expert in looking for subtle changes in your posture and movement which could indicate any problems. When a nerve becomes irritated, the cellular tissues that the nerve controls also as a result becomes irritated. Chronic irritation along the spine can produce muscular knots, tension, and imbalances.

  • 2. Instrumentation

The instrument of choice in the Gonstead System is the Nervoscope. The Nervoscope detects uneven distributions of heat along the spine which can be indicative of inflammation and nerve pressure. This instrument is guided down the length of your back and feels like two fingers gliding down each side of your spine. The findings of instrumentation are always cross-referenced with the x-ray analysis. Think of the Nervoscope like a tool that checks the circuit breaker in your house. The Gonstead chiropractor is proficient in detecting for vertebral subluxations. The Nervoscope allows the Gonstead chiropractor to “Check” for any imbalances in that particular day to make sure you actually need to be adjusted.

  • 3. Static Palpation

This process involves feeling the spine while moving and bending it at various angles. To determine how easily or difficult each segment in your spine moves in different directions. Life is motion, and everything we do in chiropractic is motion. Vertebral subluxations inhibit proper motion due to the body not being properly connected.

  • 4. Motion Palpation

This is simply the process of feeling (or palpating) your spine in a stationary (or static) position. Feeling for the presence of swelling (or edema), tenderness and any abnormal texture or tightness in the muscles and other tissues of your back. A vertebral subluxation wreaks havoc not just in one part of the spine but in all parts of the spine.

  • 5. X-Ray Analysis

X-ray films enable Dr. Scranton to visualize the entire structure of your spine. This is helpful in evaluating posture, joint and disc integrity, vertebral misalignment’s and ruling out any pathological findings, or recent fractures that may be present or contributing to the patient’s condition. These full-spine radio-graphs are taken in the standing, weight-bearing position to fully substantiate the examination findings. X-ray analysis allows the Gonstead chiropractor to be as specific as possible and eliminate all guessing when it comes to your care.
X-ray analysis is fundamental to understanding how different you are from everyone else. Understanding the x-ray component when finding a subluxation enables your care to be on point of what you would expect from a specific chiropractor. Visualizing the spine takes into account the actual health of the central nerve system. With a healthy spine comes a healthy central nerve system which means, a healthy life.
